Three Day Tour in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is a land of tourists. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world swarm in this state to enjoy the rich culture, history and ethnicity of India. From the Mughal era to the era of colonization to the contemporary India, the shade of every period is quite visible in this land. Be it the tombs of Lucknow or the abundance of temples in Ayodhya and Allahabad, every place has its own importance in the shaping of modern India.

Three days, although quite less, to cover the vast areas of this huge state, will be sufficient to show the stark contrast between the pre-historic era and the modern India.

Day 01: Arrival in Lucknow

A multicultural city, Lucknow is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. It is well known for almost everything food, Mughal Architecture, poetry, music, culture, shopping and the historical monuments. Rightfully called the “City of Nawabs” get ready to be fascinated by this amazing city.

Getting off-board, you need not worry where to stay. The city offers you a plethora of good options.

The Mapple Leaf: Situated in close proximity to the Lucknow railway station and the bus-stand this hotel has everything you need at descent prices. Wifi, 24 x 7 butler services, amiable staff and an in house restaurant – what more can you ask for.

Hotel Arif Castles: The hotel is as fancy as the name sounds. It is situated very close to the Rumi Darwaza, an amazing tourist attraction. Thus, can be considered as an option! The amenities offered are also of good quality.

Golden Tulip Lucknow: Very popular among tourists, this hotel is definitely worth trying. Located at a walkable distance from the Charbagh railway station, this hotel offers all the modern facilities with a good view of the city.

Places to visit

Still retaining its old-world charm, Lucknow has innumerable places to visit. Constructed in 1784, it is an outstanding piece of architecture. It was considered as a very famous monument of the Mughal era. It has huge underground godowns which are majorly blocked. A staircase will lead you to the famous Bhool Bhulaiya.

You can visit the place from sunrise to sunset. The entry fee is approximately INR 25.

Chhota Imambara: Standing west of Bara Imambara, this place is also a must visit. The intricate architecture inclusinf the chandeliers, mirrors and beautifully carved stones, this structure will mesmerize you.

La Martiniere: Having a romatic past, this monument is an example of one of the finest pieces of European architectures. Infact, it is a perfect blend of Italian, Mughal and Hindu architectures.

Gandhi Museum: Are you a follower of Gandhi? Want a dig in his life? Well, Gandhi Museum is a wonderful place to explore about him. From Gandhiji’s lifestyle, to his love for books, his patriotism, the famous Charkha, you will get almost every nitty-gritty about him.

Things to do in Lucknow

Lucknow is a shopper’s paradise indeed.

Known for its very popular Chikankari, one cannot miss the Chowk Bazaar of Lucknow. The Chikan kurtas of nude colors is a must buy. Also, the zardozi work is very popular in Lucknow.

Be a foodie: If there is heaven on earth it is in Lucknow. The excellent cuisines of the Shia Muslims have given jolts to many tourists who still cannot forget the amazing finger licking taste of the Lucknow cuisine. Try the kebabs – you have to try it! Make sure you don’t eat your fingers post eating it. If you have a sweet tooth, then try some hot jalebis. You will love it.

Day 02: Ayodhya

Ayodhya

The distance between Lucknow and Ayodhya is 133 kilometers which can be covered in approximately two hours via road. Although there is no direct bus but you can avail a taxi for really cheap prices.
Good news is you have enough number of trains which will carry you to the holy land of Ayodhya. Sabarmati Express, Marudhar Express etc all take approximately three hours to reach your destination. 

These trains depart in the morning and reach Ayodhya before 7 in the morning, giving you one complete day to explore this religious place.

Places to stay

Shri Ram Hotel: Starting from INR 600 onwards, you will be amazed to see the services of this hotel. A good option indeed!

Rahi Yatri Niwas: Located very close to the mesmerizing Saryu River, this place is too cheap for a dwelling. But the services offered are great at a meager price of INR 200.

Birla Dharamshala: Clean, affordable and excellent services. You can accommodate 5-6 people in the same room and enjoy your stay in Ayodhya.

Places to visit

Ayodhya is a very important religious land in the Hindu Mythology. It is the birth place of Lord Rama. It is also the birth place of the festival of Deepavali. Thus, visiting this place is important in itself.

Ramkot: This is the main place of worship in this city. It is situated in the eastern part of the city. It is crowded during Ramnavami, the birth day of Lord Rama. It is open throughout the year.

River Sarayu: This beautiful river flowing across the city is another reason to visit it. Surprisingly, the river is quite clean. Be it summer or winter, the water in the river is full and is quite forceful. So you will enjoy bathing in the water.

The ideal time to visit this river is in the morning, when you can admire the outstanding view of sunrise.

The Hanuman Garhi: This is the only temple in the world in which Lord Hanuman sits on a throne. The story says that Lord Rama, when on exile, asked Hanuman to rule the city.

Nageshwarnath Temple: The story says that this temple was built by Kush, one of the sons of Lord Rama. There is a very fascinating legend attached to this temple. According to it, Kush lost his beautiful armet in the river Sarayu which was found by a Bag – Kanya. The Nag – Kanya fell in love with Kush, and he being a Shiva devotee erected this temple for her.

The temple is in full swing during Shivratri.

Day 03: Allahabad

Allahabad

Allahabad again is a very popular city of Uttar Pradesh. Your trip would be incomplete if you do not pay a visit to the holy land of “Sangam”, signifying the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna.

Roughly situated at about 170 kilometers from Ayodhya, you can board Durga Express to reach Allahabad. It will take you some five hours to reach Allahabad.

You can reach within two hours if you hire a taxi.

Places to stay


The Crown Palace: This is a good hotel, located right in the heart of the city. The room tariff starts at about INR 1600. A little heavy on pocket, but the hotel is worth it.

Platinum inn: A boutique hotel, it is very popular in Allahabad. Highly rated, it offers excellent facilities.

Places to visit

Allahabad Fort: The Allahabad Fort built by Akbar in 1583 is a magnificent site to watch. Situated close to the river Yamuna, it imbibes serenity in a very powerful way, thus, giving away positive vibes.

Khusrau Bagh: The historic garden was built in the fond memory of the son of Jahangir, the Mughal Ruler. The graves of his son and his wife are located within the garden. The place is famous for its juicy mangoes.

Triveni Sangam: A picturesque site, this is the most visited place in Allahabad. Visit this place during sunset and get ready for an enthralling experience. It’s beautiful!
