Ambulance Services in Uttar Pradesh

The National Health Mission propagated by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Uttar Pradesh has initiated the “108 Samajwadi Swasthaya Sewa Ambulance Service” in all the districts of the state with around 900 ambulances to serve the general population. The “102 National Ambulance Service” has also taken effect from the beginning of 2014 and has so far extended to many districts of the state, particularly in rural areas, to provide emergency and trauma care services. The “181 Women Emergency Services” caters to women’s health to handle emergency situations like birth deliveries and complications in pregnancies where time is of the essence.


Under the Swastha Sewa scheme, emergency medical relief will be given to people for the treatment of emergency medical issues like pregnancy and childbirth, heart attacks, burn accidents, trauma relief in road accidents and infectious disease treatments.

Nearly 200 ambulances are deployed in 75 districts under the Uttar Pradesh Ambulance Service. The phased implementation of the Swastha Sewa which functions under the National Rural Health Mission will ultimately have a fleet of 990 ambulances fully equipped with medical equipment, trained para medical staff and communication facilities with a networked system of hospitals to reach patients requiring emergency medical treatments to hospitals on time.

In addition to Neo Natal ambulance services, Mobile Medical Emergency Units in situations of public relief like evacuations etc, emergency ambulance services include air ambulance, medical repatriation, medical escort, boat ambulance services and many others.
